Gemological grading for the lab-grown era New York Metropolitan Area ยท By appointment Client Intake
Terms of Use

Terms of use.

These cover this website. Grading itself is governed by the account terms each client signs before the first parcel ships.

Read this first. These terms cover the use of this website. They are not the terms under which the laboratory grades goods. Grading is governed by the account terms each client signs before the first parcel ships, and nothing here replaces or varies those.

1. Acceptance

By accessing this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the site.

2. The registry is the authoritative record

A printed report, a card, or a PDF is a copy. Where a copy and the registry record disagree, the registry record governs. Anyone relying on an IGML document, whether a customer, an appraiser, or an insurer, should confirm the report number in the registry rather than trust the paper in front of them. Verification is free and open to anyone.

3. What a report is, and is not

An IGML report is a statement of gemological opinion at the date of examination, made under the laboratory's published grading standards. It is not an appraisal, a valuation, or a guarantee, and it states no monetary value. It must not be presented as evidence of what an article is worth, and grading opinions can legitimately differ between competent laboratories.

4. Permitted use

You may read this site and use the verification registry for its intended purpose: confirming individual report numbers you hold or have been given.

5. What you must not do

6. Intellectual property

The text, documents, diagrams, report layouts and marks on this site belong to the laboratory and are protected by copyright and trademark law. Describing our services accurately is fine; copying our documents is not.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

This website is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, timely, error free, or that defects will be corrected. If the registry is unavailable and you need a report confirmed urgently, write to intake@igml.org and we will confirm it directly.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, IGML is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, arising out of your use of this website, even if advised of the possibility. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Liability arising from grading services is addressed in the account terms, not here.

9. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify IGML against claims arising from your misuse of this site, your breach of these terms, or your misrepresentation of an IGML document.

Governing law and venue

These terms, the website, and any dispute or claim arising out of or relating to either of them, whether in contract, tort, statute or otherwise, are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any action, suit, or proceeding arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of this website shall be brought and resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York. By accessing this website you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts, waive any objection that they are an inconvenient forum, and agree not to commence proceedings elsewhere.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, that provision is severed and the remaining provisions continue in full force.

No waiver, entire agreement

A failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the privacy notice, are the entire agreement between you and IGML concerning this website.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date below shows when they last changed, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept it.
