This report is a statement of gemological opinion at the date of examination, prepared under the laboratory’s published grading standards, and is not an appraisal, valuation, or guarantee. Grades reflect the judgment of at least two credentialed graders working against calibrated instruments and master comparison stones under standardized illumination. Grades are called blind against master comparison stones. The laboratory holds no inventory and issues no report on goods in which any owner or employee holds a financial interest. Any alteration voids this report. The registry record maintained by the laboratory is the authoritative version of the results stated here.

Colored gemstones

Gemstone identification begins where diamond grading does: with instruments. Species and variety are confirmed by measurement, treatments are disclosed, and color is described against reference sets under controlled illumination.

Where the science supports an opinion on geographic origin, the report states one, together with its confidence level. Where it does not, the report says so.

Origin opinions are stated with their confidence level, never beyond it.

Finished goods are examined stone by stone, as the mounting permits.

How mounted goods are graded

Grading a mounted stone honestly means saying what a mounting hides. Where a setting limits examination, the report says so in plain language. Weights are stated as calculated, and grades carry the industry-standard qualification that they were assessed as the mounting permits.

We would rather issue a precise report with stated limits than an exact-sounding one that cannot be defended.

Turnaround. Standard service runs two to five business days by report type, as listed in the fee schedule. Expedited next-business-day service is available for trade accounts. Goods received before 11:00 AM enter intake the same business day.
