Privacy

Privacy notice.

What this website collects, which is almost nothing, and what the laboratory holds separately from it.

In short. This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and carries no tracking or advertising scripts. It builds no profile of you. Separately, the laboratory holds business records about its clients and their goods, and those are confidential and are not shared with any company related to it.

1. What information we collect

Through this website. Effectively none. We operate no cookies, no analytics, no session recording, no advertising pixels, and no consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to. Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs, meaning IP address, page requested, browser type and timestamp, for security and troubleshooting. We do not use those logs to identify individuals.

When you contact us. The contact form composes a message inside your own email program. This website never receives or stores what you type into it. If you send the message, we then hold whatever you chose to include, as we would any correspondence.

When you verify a report. The report number you enter is looked up and the result displayed. Report numbers are not connected to you, and we keep no record of who searched for what.

As a client of the laboratory. Opening an account means giving us business and identity information: legal entity details, tax identification, beneficial ownership, identification documents for the people who control the business, authorized contacts, references, and insurance details. Submitting goods creates records of the articles, their custody history, and the grades issued.

2. How we use it

We do not use personal information for advertising, and we do not sell or share it for targeted advertising as those terms are used under United States state privacy laws.

3. When and with whom we share it

The commitment that matters most here: submission records, grades, and client identities are confidential to the laboratory and are not shared with any company under common ownership with it. Your parcel is not market intelligence. This is set out under Standards & Disclosure and it is a term of every client account.

We disclose information only: to service providers who host our systems or carry insured shipments, and only so far as needed to do that work; where required by law, subpoena, or a lawful request from a public authority; to sanctions screening providers as part of client due diligence; and to professional advisers under a duty of confidence.

4. Cookies and tracking technologies

We use none. No first-party or third-party cookies are set by this site, no analytics or session-replay tool runs on it, and no advertising network receives anything about your visit. There is consequently no cookie banner and no preferences to manage. If this ever changes, this section changes first and the date below is updated.

5. Third parties involved in serving this site

Links to other websites are not endorsements, and we are not responsible for how those sites handle your information.

6. How long we keep it

7. How we keep it safe

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of what we hold, including encrypted connections to this site, access limited to people who need it, and physical security for goods and paper records. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we do not claim otherwise. If a breach affects your information we will notify you and any regulator as the law requires.

8. Children

IGML provides services to businesses in the jewelry trade. This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.

9. Your privacy rights

Subject to the exceptions the law allows, you may ask us to: confirm what we hold about you; give you a copy; correct anything inaccurate; delete anything we are not obliged to keep; restrict or object to certain processing; and withdraw consent where processing rests on consent. Exercising these rights costs nothing and we will not treat you differently for asking.

Note one limit that follows from what a laboratory is: we cannot delete an issued report or its registry record on request. The value of a report to the person holding the stone depends on it not being removable by the person who submitted it.

10. United States state privacy rights

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas and others, have rights to access, correct, delete and port personal information, and to opt out of its sale, sharing, or use for targeted advertising and certain profiling. We do not sell or share personal information, do not use it for targeted advertising, and do not carry out automated decision-making that produces legal effects. There is accordingly nothing to opt out of, but the access, correction and deletion rights apply and are exercised as described below. California residents may also designate an authorized agent, and we will require proof of that authorization.

11. How to review, update or delete what we hold

Write to intake@igml.org stating what you want. We may need to verify your identity, or your authority to act for a client business, before acting. We respond within 45 days and will tell you if we need a single further 45 days. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your first message.

International users

IGML is based in the United States and information is processed there. If you contact us from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract, for client accounts and grading work; legal obligation, for due diligence and record keeping; legitimate interests, for security and correspondence; and consent where we ask for it. You have the rights described above and may also complain to your national supervisory authority. Where we transfer information from those regions we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful mechanism.
